National history in Children's Day mottosListen to this articlePrime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul takes selfies with children at Government House on Children's Day on Saturday. Each Children’s Day, the prime minister provides a motto that apparently reflects national situations during that period. Then-prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha speaks to children and their parents at Government House, Bangkok, on Children's Day in January 2019. Two other Children’s Day mottos are also interesting as they followed political demonstration massacres on Oct 14, 1973, and Oct 6, 1976. Children’s Day slogans may appear bright, hopeful and guiding toward the future, but when scrutinised, they contain implicit meanings that may be beyond children's perception.
