Refugee children in Hamburg. Figures from the Federal Criminal Police Office seen by the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ) show that 8,991 refugee children and teens were reported as missing as of July 1st. That number is more than the total reported in 2015 and nearly double the 4,749 underage refugees reported at the beginning of the year. “In many cases [unaccompanied refugee children] are also forced to leave because they are or have become victims of trafficking, including labour and sexual exploitation, forced begging and drug smuggling,” Missing Children Europe writes on their website.
