Credit: NASA WorldviewOn November 23 of last year, at 11:30 AM (local time), the Hayli Gubbi volcano in Afar, Ethiopia, erupted. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed in the explosion, but nearby villages and pastures were covered in ash, causing hardship for residents who raise livestock. Hayli Gubbi had been a dormant volcano with no recorded eruptions for about 12,000 years. Scientists plan to carefully monitor the Hayli Gubbi area for potential future eruptions.
