Netflix Falls Short Of Expectations On Subscriber Gains In First Quarter

Netflix added 4.95 million new subscribers in the first quarter, 3.53 million of whom were overseas, falling short of Wall Street's expectations. The company made $2.52 billion in streaming revenue as original content continues to emerge as the most important part of its model. The streamer has the biggest original content budget ($6 billion) and most ambitious original content slate of all OTT services. This year, House of Cards was shifted to the second quarter, and Netflix expects a bump from the popular show then. In the second quarter, the company predicts 3.2 million new subscribers, with 2.6 million coming from overseas.
