New Bedford resident Judge Phillip Rapoza travels to Cambodia to serve on war crimes tribunal

The Khmer Rouge has been accused of committing horrible tactics such as torture, execution, enslavement, starvation, and other inhumane acts. “A summary of the full written judgment was read in open court, a practice that is common in international courts,” explained Justice Rapoza. “An overflow crowd of Cambodian citizens watched the proceedings on large screens that were erected outside the courthouse,” said Judge Rapoza. He also served as an international judge and coordinator of the UN-backed Special Panels for Serious Crimes. “I am honored to serve on the Supreme Court Chamber of the tribunal and to have the opportunity to contribute to its important work,” said Justice Rapoza.
