New coronavirus cases in the U.S. climbed above 40,000 for the second day in a row, as the impact of Hurricane Laura added to the challenges some states face in containing the virus’s spread. In Louisiana, Gov. John Bel Edwards said during an interview with MSNBC that Hurricane Laura, which made landfall as a Category 4 storm, was going to complicate efforts to contain Covid-19, and that it has been a significant challenge to deal with a natural catastrophe during the pandemic.
