New Oxford Covid-19 vaccine trial to be run after questions raised over research error

Oxford University and pharma giant AstraZeneca announced to much fanfare this week that clinical trials were up to 90% effective. The trial continued and the main group who were given two full doses only recorded an effectiveness rate of 62%. It has now emerged the smaller group of less than 3,000 out of 24,000 trial participants on the half-dose-full-dose regime were all under 55. The Oxford vaccine has been tested in different branches of clinical trials in the UK, Brazil and South Africa. Oxford University admitted that some doses had been “measured using one type of scientific test and we are now switching to another way of measuring the dose”.
