But the messaging in the Facebook groups calls for recounts on a much grander scale, falsely asserting they’re needed because of Democrat-led voting fraud. The recount groups are close kin to the tentacled Stop the Steal movement that cropped up on Facebook last week. One of the primary drivers behind the network of pages and groups was former Trump aide Steve Bannon. Facebook eventually took down the Stop the Steal groups and pages but only after they had amassed 2.45 million followers. For now, they have less than 500,000 members, though Stop the Steal ballooned quickly from a small base.
