Amanda PhingbodhipakkiyaNew York City may be the city that never sleeps, but its also the city with an endless stream of public art. The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs have just announced the latest crop of artists who will make public art for 2020, they’re calling it their public artists-in-residence program. Each of the four artists selected for this year’s project (Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, Yazmany Arboleda, Sophia Dawson, Andre D. Wagner) share their viewpoints, as New Yorkers and as artists, on what kind of public art New York needs right now. Everybody has been impacted and New York City is at the heart of the outbreak. I hope to make public art that will inspire change, thought, and compassion amongst all of us as residents.
