The flames spread to a neighbouring 128-year-old church, local media reported. Crowds watched in shock from the street as almost 200 firefighters sprayed water on the building to contain the blaze in lower Manhattan. One claimed the blaze started in a restaurant space on the ground floor. Fire officials confirmed the blaze started on the ground floor.
