New children's home set for 'quiet' Derby suburb despite multiple concernsOfficials have greenlit plans which will see the conversion of a semi-detached houseView Image The proposed children's home in Wilson Close, Mickleover (Image: Google)A children’s home for a “quiet” Derby suburb cul-de-sac has been approved despite concerns over the “mushrooming” facilities and the letting agency developer opening it. At a South Derbyshire District Council meeting this week (Tuesday, April 7), councillors approved the children’s home for three young people aged 8-17 in a semi-detached house in Wilson Close, Mickleover. This had followed a delay to ask the developer, Leicester-based letting agency Wilson Derby Properties Ltd, to consider demolishing an existing garage to provide more parking spaces. “This is a quiet residential cul-de-sac defined by stable occupancy and low vehicle movements and this will increase vehicle movements substantially and erode residential amenity. It used to be non-profit organisations coming forward, but now it is profit-seeking organisations with no experience whatsoever.”
