New study reveals COVID-19 impact on EthiopiaHAWASSA - Close to half of women garment workers in Ethiopia have lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic and virtually none have been able to find alternative employment, according to a new study. The Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) nonprofit is carrying out the ongoing study of women who work in garment factories in Ethiopia’s largest industrial park in the city of Hawassa. The project aims to interview around 5,000 garment workers on a bi-weekly basis for the duration of six months to document how their lives are changing during the COVID-19 crisis.
