PSG supporters were given a police escort to St James' Park and fighting soon broke out with Newcastle fans ahead of their Champions League clash. Anticipation has been building in the city of Newcastle with St James' Park hosting Champions League football for the first time since 2003. Bottles were being launched from each sets of supporters with police struggling to hold everyone back from causing a riot. A large police presence gathered outside the ground to try and prevent things escalating any further. Specialist riot police were seen intervening to keep rowdy fans at bay with small fights occasionally breaking out.
