KARACHI: The Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) on Sunday said that newspapers carry an infinitely small risk of transmitting coronavirus because the World Health Organisation (WHO) has also declared them safe. In a statement, CPNE said that as per the WHO report, the likelihood of an infected persona contaminating commercial goods is low, therefore, the risk of getting infected through printed paper is infinitely small. They council also asked the managements of newspapers and the hawkers to adopt preventive measures for the safety of citizens. CPNE also welcomed the provincial governments’ decision of categorising newspapers as “essential services” and ensuring distribution of newspapers during the lockdown. Since a large number of people trust print media, the newspapers are also ensuring that correct and reliable information is conveyed to the readers,” the statement added.
