I find myself thinking that I have to be disciplined: writers like Thomas Mann (and Nick Cave) are known for just chaining themselves to a desk for a few hours a day. And I remember thinking: “And he’s Nick Cave. And you wonder, again, why Nick Cave has chosen to do this, when he just as well could have skipped the whole exercise. Only Nick Cave, king of darkness and murder ballads, would choose to word it that way.
