Niger military coup: ECOWAS calls for restoration of democratic order – The North Africa Post

Regional and international groups have thrown their support behind Niger President Mohamed Bazoum, ousted Wednesday (26 July) in a military coup, with analysts saying the coup attempt was not entirely surprising and could eventually turn out to be short-lived. The United States also condemned the coup, and reiterated its support for Bazoum, who remains in detention in the presidential palace. But in a meeting with Wang on Saturday, Ruto said Kenya was keen to strengthen its relations with China to spur economic growth. The ADB also calls on North African countries to invest in agriculture, in particular by developing improved varieties alongside water and soil management strategies. The North Africa Economic Outlook report, published since 2003, is one of the ADB Group’s flagship publications.
