England’s preparations for the first Test in Sri Lanka suffered a setback when the all-rounder Moeen Ali tested positive for Covid-19 within a day of arriving in the country. Ali, whose positive test took place in Hambantota airport shortly after the travelling party had touched down on Sunday evening, will undergo ten days of isolation that will end the day before the opening Test in Galle. Chris Woakes, who is deemed to have been in close contact with Ali, will go into isolation at the team hotel in Hambantota for at least seven days. Ali will be moved from England’s hotel to a separate facility in Galle. All of the squad and support staff will be tested again on Tuesday morning and again on Thursday
