Nineteen months later, Seaton House strep outbreak declared over

A strep outbreak at the Seaton House men’s shelter that began almost 19 months ago is finally over. The outbreak of the highly contagious bacterial infection was first declared by Toronto Public Health on March 31, 2016, two weeks after the first case was reported. Seaton House, an aging facility in the process of getting shut down by the City of Toronto, is the city’s largest shelter. Six were sent to hospital due to the outbreak, Finkelstein said. Though the last confirmed case of strep at Seaton House was in April, the city declared the outbreak over on Oct. 16.
