No indication of when energy price hikes measures will be introducedBy Bairbre Holmes, Press AssociationThe Government “will act” on rising energy costs, the Minister for Justice has said, but could not indicate when that will happen. Jim O’Callaghan was speaking on behalf of the Government at Leader’s Questions in the Dáil on Wednesday. “So it’s blindingly obvious what you need to do, cut taxes on petrol, on diesel and home heating oil. And any measures introduced will be “targeted at individuals who need them the most”. He said “in recent days” energy minister Darragh O’Brien “wrote to retail electricity and gas suppliers, as well as fuel suppliers to emphasise the importance of reducing the exposure for Irish consumers from the price shocks created by geopolitical events”.
