Abu Sakara was the 2008 Vice Presidential candidate of the CPP and later became flag bearer of the party in 2012 general election. In a statement, released in January last year, Dr Sakara explained that he had arrived at the decision following months of “contemplation” and “consultations” to go independent and break away from the CPP. He further stated that it will be difficult for any political party to defeat these two parties (NPP and NDC) in any election. According to him the duopoly can only be broken by a group of non-partisan individuals.
