No rollback of surge pricing for trains

NEW DELHI: Even after facing public flak for increasing fare prices of premium trains, the government on Sunday said that there will be no rollback of surge pricing for Rajdhani Shatabdi and Duronto trains . However, the railways said that there was no plan to make the flexi pricing scheme applicable to air conditioned classes of other trains. The Railway Board has claimed that despite surge pricing, which has been capped at 1.5 times of the base fare, there has been no fall in number of tickets booked. "Occupancy in Rajdhani trains has been more than 118% in last two days and 30% of tickets booked for these trains were under flexi-pricing scheme.Last year, for the same period, occupancy was 90%," Member Traffic-Rail Board Mohammed Jamshed said. Jamshed said tickets for premium trains were still cheaper than airfare and the advantage of airlines was limited to very few sectors. As of now, we have no plan to implement it for other trains," he added.
