North Africa: Heatwave forecast to persist across Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia through at least Aug. 9 /update 4

EventForecast models indicate that a heatwave will persist across much of Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia through at least Aug. 9. As of early Aug. 4, the respective meteorological services have issued the following high-temperature warnings across the affected area:Orange (middle level on a three-tier scale) heatwave warnings: southwestern Algeria and central MoroccoYellow heatwave warnings: southern and northern Algeria and the rest of Morocco. The extended period of very high temperatures and dry conditions may increase the potential for wildfires throughout the region. In addition to significantly impacting athletes and those who work outdoors, high temperatures can cause problems for people using mass transit. Commercial trucking disruptions might occur, as very high temperatures put more stress on vehicles and make tire blowouts more common.
