North Africa: Heatwave forecast to persist across northwestern Algeria and Morocco through at least Aug. 13 /update 5


EventForecast models indicate that a heatwave will persist across parts of northwestern Algeria and across Morocco through at least Aug. 13. As of Aug. 9, the respective meteorological services have issued the following high-temperature warnings across the affected area:Orange (middle level on a three-tier scale) heatwave warnings: Ain Defla, Ain Temouchent, Chlef, Mascara, Mostagnem, Oran. Yellow heatwave warnings: Djelfa and M'Sila provinces in Algeria and much of the rest of Morocco. The extended period of very high temperatures and dry conditions may increase the potential for wildfires throughout the region. In addition to significantly impacting athletes and those who work outdoors, high temperatures can cause problems for people using mass transit.
