North Korea has produced nuclear weapons, ‘hangover-free’ alcohol, and some truly spectacular military parades. Yet as it defies international sanctions and tests more missiles, North Korea has also produced its first ever official ‘whisky’. GettyFirst announced (in English, at least) by the Young Pioneers Tours (YPT) company, which specialises in trips to North Korea and other unusual countries, the whisky is produced by the Samilpo distillery. The bottles may look familiar, as they use similar labelling and the square-bottle shape that you might find on Johnnie Walker whisky. Though plenty of everyday products are hard to find for ordinary citizens in North Korea, including Western magazines, Apple products, sports cars, and female sanitary pads, alcohol is a bit easier to come by.
