Donald Trump responded to North Korea’s sixth nuclear test by turning on one of Washington’s closest allies in the region, South Korea, blaming it on Seoul’s policy of “appeasement”. “South Korea is finding, as I have told them, that their talk of appeasement with North Korea will not work, they only understand one thing!” Trump tweeted. “Reassuring South Korea is a top priority,” Jon Wolfsthal, a former special assistant to Barack Obama on non-proliferation, said. “US North Korea policy is in tatters. “In this environment, the Trump administration must articulate and begin to implement a comprehensive North Korea strategy.
