First, Libya is currently the largest theatre of proxy wars in the Greater Middle East. More foreign powers are involved in the Libyan proxy war than in Syria. Recently, Turkey has supplied the GNA forces with home-made drones, known as Bayraqdar (flagbearer) copied from an outdated American model. Though Gaddafi had granted Libyan citizenship to many Turks, most immigrants returned home after his fall. Now, facing mass unemployment at home, Erdogan hopes to see some of those who still have Libyan citizenship, to return there.
