A nursery apprentice accused of sex assaults on young children was left dumbstruck when he was confront with an allegation of raping a three-year-old child, a jury heard yesterday. She told the court that McCarthy was taken on full time as an apprentice after an interview process and disclosure and barring service checks. She agreed under cross examination that there could be a large amount of physical contact between children and staff. She agreed that some children were more tactile and clingy than others and that children could sit on the laps of staff.
