NMC data shows 15,000 more nurses, midwives and nursing associates have joined the NMC register compared to March 2020 - but its rate of growth has slowed. NMC polling showed that other than retirement at 52%, the key reasons for leaving the register was too much pressure at 23%. She quit blaming a lack of respect for NHS staff by Mr Johnson and his below inflation pay plan for carers. “It’s been a year like no other and thousands of nurses and midwives have worked flat out to tackle this virus. “We will continue to improve the support for nurses and midwives who have been through so much over the last year.”
