OC Transpo ended last year with a $52-million deficit as fare revenue fell short and other levels of government failed to come to the rescue. It's worse than the $47-million transit deficit forecast at mid-year. At budget time, OC Transpo was banking on $36 million in bail-out funding from the provincial or federal governments. OC Transpo is not expected to earn a profit and receives a substantial taxpayer subsidy. The report noted that it would have been a surplus had the province or the federal governments helped out OC Transpo.
