Ireland should follow the UK’s lead and launch an ocean rewilding initiative to help the country reach its climate targets, an environmental group has said. The Irish Wildlife Trust said that rewilding Irish waters with habitats such as oyster reefs and seagrass will significantly increase the amount of carbon dioxide that can be taken from the water and air and permanently stored under the sea.
