She noted the role that Just Transition funding has played in enabling these initiatives which are creating employment and strengthening the community. McDonnell, widely known in Athlone as 'Viking Mike', outlined how Just Transition funding had allowed him to transition from diesel to HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), reducing negative environmental and marine ecological impacts. It is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund Programme 2021-2027.
