Oil turmoil speeds up Thailand's electric shift

Oil turmoil speeds up Thailand's electric shiftBanks and car buyers are increasingly shifting towards battery electric vehicles (BEVs) as surging oil prices, fuelled by Middle East tensions, reshape Thailand's auto market, says Ford Thailand. The trend reflects both consumer anxiety over fuel shortages and financial institutions' growing confidence in electric mobility. Despite these challenges, Ford Thailand has not yet experienced a shortage of auto parts, thanks to stockpiling before the conflict began. Thailand's pickup segment, once the backbone of the domestic auto market, has been shrinking for three consecutive years. EVAT president Suroj Sangsanit said electric mobility is not only a technological advancement but also a strategic measure to reduce Thailand's dependence on oil.
