An oil well in the Western Desert of Egypt has been completed with the use of solar energy, the government said. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said in a statement that the operation of the Farah well in the Meleiha region has been completed with solar energy. Global peak demand for oil is in sightThe North African nation has been increasing its investment in renewable projects in connection with international partners. Last month, the country announced that a 200MW utility-scale solar plant is to be built. The Kom Ombo plant will contribute to the Egyptian government’s target to generate 42% of the country’s electricity from renewable energy sources by 2035.
