PCOO even drafted a Department Order (DO) for interim Social Media Blogger Accreditation in July 2017. The purpose of the DO was "to provide an interim system of accreditation for social media bloggers' participation to cover special events attended by the President, in order to generate news and information for the citizenry through social media platforms." One example is the fuss over the accreditation of 14 bloggers covering the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). Mainstream media and social media practitioners could complement each other. If a code of ethics and standards are in place for the accreditation, and opposition bloggers are included, this is good for democracy.
