Peter Schmeichel bowed out of international football on this day 20 years ago after making his 129th appearance for Denmark. The former Manchester United goalkeeper had already announced his intention to retire in February that year but his final game came on April 25, aged 37, as Denmark defeated Slovenia 3-0. Schmeichel ended up winning 15 trophies for United, with his final game for the club being their historic Champions League final victory over Bayern Munich in 1999 which completed an unprecedented treble. After leaving United, Schmeichel went on to play for four more years with Sporting, Villa and Manchester City.
