The Virginia Tech men’s basketball team managed to turn what once looked to be a blowout into a one-point game against Notre Dame on Saturday at Cassell Coliseum. “It’s just the margin of it all, right, when you play Notre Dame,” Virginia Tech Coach Buzz Williams said, noting the Irish’s habit of playing close games this season. Virginia Tech (13-4, 2-3 ACC) missed eight free throws at critical moments and committed 13 turnovers erase the work done to come back from a 14-point second-half deficit. Virginia Tech hasn’t beaten Notre Dame since the 1973 National Invitation Tournament championship. Notre Dame worked the Hokies all over the floor in the first half, but did the most damage around the perimeter.
