An extremely rare, surviving page of the original manuscript for Sherlock Holmes novel The Hound of the Baskervilles has emerged for sale in the US for £145,000. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle released the tale featuring the world famous Sherlock Holmes in 1902, reviving the fictional detective he killed off eight years earlier. The page is one of the 185 pages in the original manuscript which were offered to dealers as part of the book's extensive publicity campaign. In dialogue written on the page, Holmes says: 'My dear Watson, you were born to be a man of action. 'He is known best as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, but most of that was in short stories - this leaf is from one of just four Sherlock Holmes crime novels.
