Onion prices rise again

Al Amin Molla, a retail onion trader at Rampura kitchen market, acknowledged the price hike, blaming it on increase of onion price in wholesale markets, but could not pinpoint the actual reason behind it. Later, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) began open market sale (OMS) at various points across Dhaka, while the government also imported onion from different countries, which caused onion prices to fall. In Khulna also, the onion prices have remained on an upward trend. Prices of local onion in retail markets across Khulna hovered yesterday between Tk95 and Tk100 per kg, while it sold at Tk75-80 per kg in wholesale markets. Traders said there was a supply deficiency in the district, which prevented onion prices from falling.
