A resident, identified only as Jay, said the roaring shocked them as he and other residents gathered at the unit to investigate the “scream”. Jay said according to the owner of the unit, the cub was injured when she took it home. Sun bear conservationist Dr Wong Siew Te said poachers would have killed the mother bear and sold the cub to a middleman. “The department’s veterinarians are examining the cub for injuries or sickness,” he said, adding that the bear is about six months old. Abdul Kadir said the unit owner did not produce any legal documents to keep the cub when the authorities took the animal from her unit on Thursday night.
