Op-Ed: Vaccine hesitancy is common among Black healthcare workers. We’re trying to resolve it


Across the nation, Black healthcare workers are receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at rates far lower than their white counterparts. Health systems across the country, and particularly those with large numbers of Black employees, must have an intentional and coordinated strategy to address vaccine hesitancy. Our goal was to reach staffing groups with a high percentage of Black employees, including environmental services, food services, patient transport and materials management. Our Black staff needs to hear from Black experts. Outside the walls of the hospital, our Black employees are trusted messengers for their families, friends and neighbors.
