Opening day success for Grant and Foster

GORING Thames Sailing Club got their new season under way with racing in the spring series in fresh and gusty conditions last weekend. Two lasers took to the water for the first race, both setting radial sails, as a concession to the potential of 30-knot gusts. However, neither Neil Grant nor Rupert Woolley needed the services of the safety boat, despite the tricky gibe required at the mark downriver. Mark Foster joined the laser fleet for the second race, which saw the wind gusts achieve their aim of catching both Grant and Woolley into capsize. Despite short dunking in cold water, both went on to finish the race which was won by Foster.
