To the Editor:Here is some information to consider with respect to Canton village’s composting program located at the Bend in the River site off Lincoln Street. Concerns were raised by village and town officials about the composting program and the Canton Sustainability Committee was tasked with developing a plan that addresses those concerns. To our knowledge there are no private waste collection services that currently will collect food waste in Canton and compost it. Food waste is the most common material in municipal solid waste comprising 24% (report in 2021 on the environmental impacts of food waste). In landfills, food waste produces CO2 and an even more potent greenhouse gas, methane.
