The coronavirus pandemic has shown just how deeply rooted inequality is in the United States. So far, most efforts to reduce the vast gap between rich and poor Americans have centered on providing equal access to jobs and education. It is a simple economic fact that wealth begets wealth. This means that the wealth gap in the United States has actually gotten worse since the pandemic's onset. In fact, it is estimated that approximately one in five Black families in the United States have no wealth whatsoever.
