Members of the Opposition walked out of the Assembly on Wednesday in protest against the alleged government neglect of the coir sector. Congress MLA Adoor Prakash, who gave notice for an adjournment motion on the crisis gripping the coir sector, alleged that the government was doing precious little to support the industry and said the entire industry would come to a standstill soon. Transportation of husk to Tamil Nadu was one of the prime reasons, Mr. Prakash said. Due weightageHe said that due weightage had been given for bettering the lot of the workers and also diversification and mechanisation. Based on the government’s reply Speaker P.Sreeramakrishnan denied notice for the motion and the Opposition walked out in protest.
