MSJONESNYC for HuffPostGhana and Ivory Coast have agreed to a swath of anti-deforestation measures over the years. One of the most prominent is the Cocoa & Forests Initiative, launched in 2017. Cocoa farms usually require the removal of shade trees, since cocoa trees need full sun, driving deforestation. Cocoa farmers, mostly rural, small-scale producers, are at the very bottom of the global chocolate supply chain.
