I have served as a police officer in every corner of Cumbria, in rural communities, busy towns, and along our coastline. I have seen the challenges up close, from rural crime and road safety to struggling town centres and serious organised crime. That experience has shaped me and shown me that good leadership starts with listening and understanding the realities people face every day. But look at what mayors such as Andy Burnham have delivered for Greater Manchester: more investment, better transport and decisions shaped by local people. That is the kind of mayor I will be if I am given the honour to serve.
