PNP to combat fake news on energyMANILA, Philippines — Efforts to combat fake news about the country’s energy security, fuel supply and prices will be intensified by the Philippine National Police (PNP). “The situation in the Middle East is a serious matter and any attempt to exploit it to trigger unwarranted panic among our people must be addressed,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said yesterday. The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group has been directed to step up monitoring of online platforms and accounts suspected of spreading disinformation. Sharing unverified information about the energy situation could be treated as a serious offense, the Presidential Communications Office said earlier.
