Pakistan hits highest single-day toll from virus during second wave


The highest single-day death toll was recorded on June 20 when 141 patients lost their lives while the country was in the midst of the first wave. Meanwhile, the nation recorded 2,256 fresh infections of the coronavirus after conducting 37,173 tests — a positivity ratio of 6.07 percent. The province-wise breakdown of the numbers showed a 7.29 percent positivity rate in Lahore, 6.46 percent in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad 2.7 percent, Multan 3.24 percent and Gujranwala with 5.62 percent. Quetta witnessed a 2.99 percent positivity ratio, Islamabad 5.08 percent Mirpur, AJK 5.36 percent, Muzaffarabad 4.83 percent and GB 2.48 percent. The numbers are as following: AJK 8,065; Balochistan 18,005; GB 4,838; Islamabad 36,721; KP 56,160; Punjab 133,874 and Sindh 207,407.
