Panay River pollution hurting oyster gatherersIloilo City — The uncontrolled dumping of garbage into the Panay River in Capiz province is depriving oyster gatherers of their daily harvest. Panay River, Roxas City (Photo courtesy of Google Map)Saving the river from deterioration is the reason Capiz Governor Antonio del Rosario initiated the creation of Save Panay River Council and Task Force last September 5. He blamed the lack of proper waste disposal in hospitals, businesses and among the informal settlers for the increasing pollution in Panay River. Talabero also warned that Panay River, especially the portion that runs through Roxas City, has become unsafe for swimming. The Panay River passes through 16 towns of Capiz and several towns in Aklan and Iloilo provinces.
