Okja director Bong Joon-ho has provided a thoroughly entertaining, highly amusing, thematically-rich, and expertly executed thriller in Parasite, which deservedly took home the highest honour of Cannes Film Festival - the Palme d'Or - last summer. The film follows the Kim family, a clan living in poverty in South Korea, who soon see a chance to improve their circumstances by manoeuvring their way into jobs at the home of the considerably wealthy Parks. However, a special shout-out should also be given to Cho Yeo-jeong as Yeon-gyo, the uptight but rather ignorant mother of the Park family who has terrific comic timing as the clinical face of the richer clan. VerdictQuite simply put, Parasite is a thrilling masterpiece from Bong Joon-ho, a director at the height of his powers offering a film that is profoundly entertaining, wonderfully realised, and thought-provoking. If there's any justice in the world, Parasite should take home Best Picture at the Oscars.
